Andrew Stewart Jamieson is in my humble opinion a heraldic artist with an exceptional talent. So it was a great pleasure to receive Jesse Carrasco's bookplate which I immediately recognised as the work of this talented artist. I fact here I show two versions of the plate, spot the difference! The original plate designed by the artist chose to express the bear with one eye open. Is he cheekily winking? Or is it possible  this was his last glance at the viewer before deep sleep? Which ever, Jesse decided he should sleep and that will be the version he will use. I love Andy's bookplates, they remind me of the old masters plates which were so finely engraved, in fact I'm sure his work could be mistaken for an engraving. A beautifully executed work and a great asset to my collection.

Barrie Burr is an Englishman domiciled in Australia and is a noted and highly regarded digital heraldic artist. Known for his bold designs and spectacular use of colour. He has kindly sent me his Bookplate. This is the first black and white drawing by Barrie I have seen and I  was quite surprised when I opened the envelope to find it so. A classical design which includes Barrie's badges; the boar representing his career as a chef and the floral badge his artwork. The shields represent the towns of Leighton-Linslade after amalgamation and the eagle/castle shield is that of Bedford Borough Council. What a pity I can't reproduce the quality and clear definition of the original here for the are indeed a pleasure to see.

Andrew Gordon Peak has kindly sent me a selection of his bookplates from Australia. The first by Joan Harris (Plymouth, England), is very classic in style and shows Andrew's delightful crest perfectly. The second (by our mutual friend the late Jim McCready). Jim has used Andrew's crest effectively to hold the banner. There are very subtle differences in the two artists drawing of the (Kangaroo/ Wallaby?). Joan has turned the animals head to aline with the position of the helmet! A very nice detail. The third is an adventurous work by artist Gordon Collett, more of his work can be seen  below (May).

Kaare Seeberg Sidselrud (Norway), ended his note to me with the word Enjoy! An understatement in my opinion, for Kaare has a wonderful collection of armorial plates by Internationally famous artists. I show them here for us all to enjoy! The two plates by Ronny Andersen and the late Jan Raneke are produced for Kaare, his wife and a relative.

Col. Lance Bernadotte Miller, I am pleased to write is a FB Heraldry friend. His bookplate shown here is the work of artist Dr. Michael Medvedev of St. Petersburg, Russia. This is the second bookplate designed and executed by Michael now in my collection and can only describe them both as stunning! Also alongside is the bookplate of Richard Bruce Bernadotte Miller Esq. By Frederick Hogarth of Baronage Press (2006), This plate was produced before Richard's succession to the titles of Baron of Jedburgh Forest and of Haliburton & Lambden.

GORDON COLLETT (Muralist & Illustrator) has kindly sent me a selection of his exciting and beautifully executed armorial plates. In Gordon's words "Armorial plates with a slightly different 'take.' " I must say I love Gordon's work, his designs are truly modern and adventurous. It really is nice to see an English artist at the forefront of armorial bookplate design with a difference! I will be displaying more of Gordon's work when I  next  update other pages.

April. 2013

I have received seven pen and ink bookplates from Polish bookplate and heraldic  artist TOMASZ STEIFER. I have chosen four here to illustrate Tomasz's inspired work. His style is a mixture of influences by the old Continental bookplate masters of the 17thC  and also a more modern style of plate that can be seen in the 'tree of shields'. I must say Tomasz's designs are very pleasing to the eye.

I am pleased to receive the bookplates of Vernon Christopher Rolls. Designed by the late Daniel de Bruin and based on the College of Arms grant of June 1, 2001. The badge reflects the design of crests born by the families of Rolle of Lewknor, Oxfordshire, UK (descended from Rolle later Baron Rolle, of Stevenston ........... 'the hand proper holding a Roll of Vellum bendwise sinister argent ......... A very nice 'pun' on the name Rolls.
