Displaying your Bookplates
THERE are various methods of displaying bookplates. The Bookplate Society recommends the use of a ring bound loose leaf stamp album, the plates fixed with stamp hinges at their corners. This method also allows the collector to write artists details etc. alongside the bookplate. The plates can be easily removed, or if required the pages of the album can be re jigged using this method of display.
Another method favoured by some collectors is to paste the plates on light board and subsequently use indexed box files to store them.
My preferred method of storage and display is a self adhesive photo album, 12in x 11in. Each page has a protective plastic sheet which covers the bookplates, as it would photos. Also the plates are easily lifted if required.
Really, there is no right or wrong method of displaying your own bookplates! Stamp albums, box files, photo albums, plastic folders, or even a shoe box. The choice is yours.
